They have to do this or the company will have a do-it-or-die mentality.<\/p>\n
The National Highway Transportation Safety Board in November will release the new proposal that automakers must achieve 35 CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) by 2020. The government is now acting with strict requirements that the manufacturer must follow or else\u2026 Existing Standards For trucks it is 23 and for cars it is 27.5 as new in the 2008\/2009 models. While in 2004 the number was 17 for trucks and 24 for cars.<\/p>\n
Even better, not only in 2020 must manufacturers meet CAFE 35 standards, but there are strict guidelines to be incrementally better with each year approaching 2020. There is a mandate that manufacturers must produce cars that are 4.5% more fuel efficient over the years. Every year, between 2011 and 2015. That’s 4.5% better than the year before and onwards.<\/p>\n
If automakers fulfill this mandate properly, they will be associated with a 3 times higher rate of introduction of new technology than at any time in history.
